Most overweight persons usually use Slimming pills to lose weight because of the health risks of overweight. Even though marketers would encourage this, do not believe the magical claims most slimming and dieting pills tell you. Most of them are either total lies or half-truths as they will never tell you the risks involved. Weak regulation of dietary supplements and pills around the world pose the risk of unsafe ingredients being found in them. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reported that 20% of 127 dieting pills analyzed made illegal claims on their functions. The safest way to weight loss remains disciplined dieting and exercise.



Long-term weight loss requires a change in eating habits which these drugs cannot give.

Most weight loss drugs can cause anxiety, poor sleep, high blood pressure, increased heart rate, restlessness, addiction and withdrawal symptoms.

Some of these drugs interfere with the absorption of fat, leading to oily spotting and soft stools. Some pills affect neurotransmitters in the brain leading to nausea, vomiting, constipation, headaches, dry mouth, dizziness, bleeding in the anus, kidney and liver problems.

Note that slimming pill addiction could cause severe dangers as increased risk for heart attack and stroke.

Slimming pills function by different mechanism which includes:

  • Make you feel full earlier than normal by stimulating an increased level of serotonin. High amount of blood serotonin causes the feeling of fullness. hastening the rate of metabolism

Slimming pills had been observed to show mild side effects as soft stools, diarrhea, constipation, flatulence, headaches, nausea, dry mouth, sleep problems, tremor, fatigue and dizziness.

Slimming pills are usually sympathomimetic amines, which are psychoactive stimulants that can increase heart rate leading to high blood pressure. This could be life-threatening, a severe side effect of slimming pills.

Slimming pills could be addictive, leading to abuse.

  1. LIVER INJURY:

Xenical, a lipase inhibitor slimming pill have been found to cause liver injury thereby resulting in liver diseases as Jaundice, colored stools and urine.

  1. INFANT DEFECTS AT BIRTH:

Topiramate, an approved weight loss drug had been found to cause severe birth defects in pregnant women.



  1. DEPRESSION:

Liraglutide had been associated with thyroid C-cell tumor cancer, Bupropion and naltrexone had been found to worsen depression.

  1. STROKE AND HEART ATTACK:

Drugs like Sibutramine and Fenfluramine had been removed from the US market due to severe side effects as heart attack and stroke.

In conclusion, slimming pills would only work when the user has a disciplined eating habit aimed at reducing high-calorie foods.
